Waste Management Strategy (2016)

Consultation has concluded

Council is focused on facilitating an approach to waste management that minimises the volume of waste going to the Mitchell Landfill by providing opportunities for Council, residents and the local business community to reduce overall waste generation and divert recyclable materials away from landfill.

Waste and resource recovery is an essential service that seeks to manage materials consumed and disposed of by all sectors of the community. Proper management of waste is essential to protecting the health and amenity of our communities and the environment.

Council's key waste services include:

  • Waste Education
  • Municipal kerbside collection
  • Commercial kerbside collection
  • Managing Resource Recovery Centres
  • Landfill
  • Event Waste Collection
  • Hard Waste disposal at Resource Recovery Centres
  • Management of organic waste
  • Litter, Dumped Waste and Public Place waste management
Proposed Mitchell Shire Waste Management Strategy 2015-20

The draft Waste Management Strategy (WMS) 2015-2020 supersedes Council’s previous Waste Management Strategy 2010-2015 providing Council with clear strategic direction for delivering waste and resource recovery services into the future and maximising opportunities to divert waste from landfill. The WMS also provides a solid framework for managing waste and resource recovery more effectively and efficiently.
