Overview

We Are Beveridge was a community art project celebrating the people who make Beveridge a great place to live. The project invited residents to share stories about their local champions, memories, and the moments that shape community life. These stories were transformed into art poles for the garden at the Greater Beveridge Community Centre.

What we asked / What was proposed

We asked the community to share stories about:

  • Local champions, quiet achievers and everyday legends
  • People making an impact in arts, culture, sport, volunteering, or youth initiatives
  • Those honouring and uplifting women or challenging gender inequity
  • Faith and multicultural leaders who help build connections
  • Seniors inspiring through leadership
  • Environmental and sustainability champions
  • Favourite places or memorable moments in Beveridge

Residents were also invited to take part in free community workshops with artist Justine Barlow, where they could enjoy a meal, connect with neighbours, and contribute creatively to the art-making process.

What we heard

Community members shared a wide range of heartfelt stories celebrating:

  • Neighbours who make a difference
  • People building cultural and social connection
  • Local sporting mentors
  • Community volunteers who go above and beyond
  • Family memories tied to specific places in Beveridge

Stories were submitted through workshops and the online form.

What we did / Outcomes

  • The shared stories were used as inspiration for the design of garden art poles created through the community workshops.
  • Workshops were well attended, with participants of all ages contributing their ideas and artwork.
  • The art poles were installed at the Greater Beveridge Community Centre garden on 4 February 2026, completing the project.
  • The artworks now serve as a celebration of the people, values and stories that shape Beveridge.

Acknowledgements

Thank you to everyone who shared their story, attended a workshop, or contributed artwork.
Special thanks to artist Justine Barlow, and to Community Development Officer – Arts and Culture, Ange Stock, for leading the project.
