Where did the funding come from?
Mitchell Shire Council has Public Art Capital Infrastructure Budget of $20 000 for 2023/24. Council has also applied for a Tiny Towns Grant from the Victorian Government. If successful, the Tiny Towns grant will contribute to projects in Wandong and Pyalong. Notification of this grant is expected in May 2024. For more information on Tiny Towns Grants click here.
How will the artist and artwork be selected?
Council is consulting the community to shape this public art project. With community feedback, the resulting artwork will aim to reflect the values, interests, history and culture of Wandong/Heathcote Junction.
How will the artwork be maintained?
As with all capital infrastructure, the artwork will be selected for its durability and Council will be responsible for maintenance and repairs as required.
What are the benefits to the local community and economy?
Public art has a range of benefits for community. By adding art to public spaces, we can make them more engaging which has the potential to attract more visitors and boost the economy. Public art also has the power to enhance the communities' sense of belonging.
