Wandong Heathcote Junction Public Art Project
Consultation has concluded
Mitchell Shire Council is proposing a new public artwork for Wandong in 2024. The public art work will be displayed on land managed by Council so we are seeking community input on what the artwork could reflect about Wandong and Heathcote Junction.
Ultimately the artwork will be in a central and frequently-used location and will refer to what the community loves, finds unique or is proud of in Wandong/Heathcote Junction. We hope it will become a well-loved backdrop to community life.
Why have an artwork?
Council’s Public Art Policy (2021-25) states that Public art in Mitchell aims to reflect everyday life and helps tell important stories about its places, people and common values and ideas.
Public art should consider relevance to Mitchell Shire and may:
- explore and encourage awareness of global, national or local issues and themes
- interpret historical sites and tell important local stories
- encourage community and visitor engagement.
- be utilised to increase community connection
Whilst a selection panel convened by Council will make the final decision about the location, artwork themes and the artist, we welcome any insights, feedback and preferences of the local community.
How to get involved
The below questionnaire is your opportunity to tell us what you would like to see in a public artwork. We'll ask you to consider what the townships and surrounds mean to you, what makes you proud to be part of the Wandong/Heathcote Junction community and what might represent those connections to the place and community. We'll offer various themes including flora, history and animals and ask you to select your preferences.
