Volunteering in Mitchell

Consultation has concluded

Please give us your feedback, and be in the running for a prize!

We are seeking feedback about volunteering so we can improve the way in which volunteering works across our Shire. Please join our online community consultation, and be in the running to win one of two $100 VISA Giftcards.

We are seeking your input via survey responses from:
  • Formal Volunteers (Past and Present) - A formal volunteer is one who is formally registered with a community group or not-for-profit organisation, and the volunteering is formally recognised by the organisation.
  • Informal Volunteers (Past and Present) - An informal volunteer is one who is not formally affiliated with an organisation or community group, and their volunteer activity is not formally recognised by a formal organisation.
  • Not a volunteer? We'd like to hear from you too!
Please register or sign in to Engaging Mitchell to take part.
The Mitchell Shire community is leading the way in volunteering, with an impressive 21% of the population volunteering (as opposed to the Victorian average of 19%). Volunteers are strengthening our community and contributing to a stronger, more resilient Mitchell Shire - with over 240 not-for-profit organisations, community groups, clubs and associations operating within our municipality.

Volunteering contributes to community capacity building by providing long-term benefits through:
  • community involvement including safer communities
  • skills development and social contact for community and family members
  • contribution to the overall health and wellbeing of a community supporting emergency services, sport, recreation, the arts, events, education, health, welfare, aged care, children’s programs and environment programs.
Australian statistics have identified emerging trends in the ways people are choosing to volunteer. People are opting for more flexible roles, shorter volunteer hours and shorter time commitments. While traditional volunteering is still prominent within Mitchell, it is important to recognise and respond to the need for versatile volunteering options.

We are developing a Volunteer Framework to outline the vision and guidelines/standards for volunteer engagement and development in Mitchell Shire. By collecting Mitchell specific data, we will ensure that we are delivering a framework that is relevant to Mitchell.

Take one of our surveys and you'll go in the draw to win one of two $100 Visa Gift Vouchers* as a thank you for your valuable time. All personal information relating to the prize draw will be removed from the data. Collection of information about you and the organisation you volunteer for will adhere to our Privacy Policy and Participation Information Statement.

Surveys will be open until 15 August 2016. For more information contact our Community Development Team on 035734 6200.
