Landscape Assessment Study

Consultation has concluded

Consultation has closed on the Landscape Assessment Study and submissions are under review. Council will consult further with the community on this project later this year.

Mitchell Shire’s landscapes are unique and diverse. They include rolling hills, river valleys, foothills, granitic uplands, volcanic plains and cones.

To ensure that significant landscapes across the Shire are protected and that development is properly managed, Council has prepared a Draft Landscape Assessment Study. The following areas have been nominated as significant:

  1. Mount Piper
  2. Tallarook and Cherry Tree Ranges, Trawool Valley
  3. Granitic Uplands
  4. Beveridge Volcanics
  5. Western Strathbogie Ranges
  6. Deep Creek Valley and Ridges
  7. Mount Disappointment and Foothills
  8. Monument Hill
  9. Campaspe River Valley

The primary purpose of the Study is to assess the visual significance of landscapes based on community observations, technical expertise and background research. This will then inform changes to the boundaries of existing town planning Significant Landscape Overlay areas and the creation of new Significant Landscape Overlay areas.
