Council currently has adopted Governance Rules in accordance with section 60 of the Local Government Act 2020 (the Act). The making of the Regulatory Legislation Amendment (Reform) Act 2022 resulted in changes to the Act to provide for attendance and participation in online Council meetings and delegated committees.

The current Governance Rules were adopted by Council in August 2020, following community consultation. They outline the process for:

  • the conduct of Council meetings
  • the conduct of meetings of delegated committees
  • the election of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and appointment of an Acting Mayor
  • Council’s Election Period Policy
  • conflict of interest procedures for Councillors, Council staff and members of a delegated committee.

The revised Governance Rules have been drafted to meet the new term used in the legislation regarding meetings being held by electronic means of communication. Additional changes have also been made. These are outlined in the draft document.

Submissions close 9am, Monday 1 August.
