The strategy was endorsed at a Council meeting on Monday 18 May 2026.

Mitchell Shire Council released its draft Economic Development Strategy 2026–2030 and invited community feedback.

As Victoria's fastest growing municipality, Mitchell Shire was uniquely positioned to turn growth into real economic opportunity. Its proximity to Melbourne, access to major transport and freight corridors, available developable land, and an expanding workforce created a foundation that few regions could match.

The strategy set a clear framework across four focus areas:

1. Increasing opportunities for investment in local business and industry

2. Increasing opportunities for local employment

3. Increasing opportunities for tourism and the visitor economy

4. Developing and leveraging partnerships for economic development and investment

This gave the community an opportunity to have a say on the direction of the local economy for the next four years.

How the community got involved

This was an opportunity for the community to help shape the future of the local economy.

The community could get involved by:

  • Reading the draft strategy and making a submission
  • Completing an online submission
  • Speaking with Council’s Economic Development team at upcoming community events
  • Picking up a submission form at any Mitchell Shire Customer or Library Centre
