We're calling for community submissions on the Draft Proposed Common Seal and Conduct at Meetings Local Laws.
The purpose of the Local Law will:
- · Regulate the use of Mitchell Shire's common seal
- · Prohibit unauthorised use of the common seal or any device resembling the common seal
- · Determine a set of offences and associated penalties relating to conduct at meetings
The meeting procedure applicable to Council (and Delegated Committee) meetings is now addressed through Governance Rules made under the Local Government Act 2020 (2020 Act). As part of the transition to the 2020 Act, Council is revoking the current Local Law to remove any duplication of its Governance Rules.
However, the use of the common seal cannot be addressed through Governance Rules, nor can offences be created. Accordingly, Council has resolved to repeal the current Local Law and make the proposed Local Law to provide for the continued regulation of Council’s common seal and offences in respect of conduct at meetings.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
- Provide a submission online
