FAQs
How will this impact the traffic in the area?
Following consideration by Council of the master plan, one of the next steps will be to undertake an Traffic Impact Assessment for the site which will be required before we can seek a planning permit. Council acknowledges the pressure on the road network in this area. We are currently awaiting approval from the Department of Transport for treatment works at the corner of Lithgow Street and the Old Hume Highway. We hope to see these works completed in the next 8 months. We're also hoping to see upgrades to the roundabout on the western side of Lithgow Street and the Hume Freeway interchange in the same timeframe. Council is also strongly advocating for upgrades to Old Sydney Road and has applied for a grant to help make this happen. This is in addition to the $900 million secured for Camerons Lane, for which designs are almost complete. However, unfortunately the State Government has advised that the project won't be completed until 2031
Will there be further consultation on the features of the play space?
Yes – following consideration by Council of the master plan, further detailed design of the entire site will be required and this will also include the type of playground equipment that can be provided. We are happy to hear from you about the type of equipment that you would like to see there, so please let us know!
How will the project be funded?
Council collects financial contributions from developers that are designated in the Precinct Structure Plan. All developer contributions received from construction within the Precinct Structure Plan, must be spent on this site and cannot be re-allocated to another project, or site. The project will be funded with money received through developer contributions. Additional funding will also be sought through a range of other funding applications to other levels of government.
What is the arrangement with Melbourne Victory?
On 14 February 2025, it was announced that Council and Melbourne Victory have signed an in-principle Agreement proposing to establish a high-performance facility in Beveridge. Melbourne Victory’s high-performance sport presence will enhance community engagement and provide economic development to the region and promote healthy lifestyles. This proposed project represents a significant milestone for the community, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to urban development focused on wellbeing, connectivity, and inclusivity. It will see both elite and community football played from Beveridge and one of Australia’s strongest football clubs create a home in Mitchell.
The $35 plus million development is proposed to be delivered in two stages, with construction of stage one scheduled for 2026. Both Melbourne Victory and Mitchell Shire Council are proposing to contribute resources to ensure the project’s success.
The Agreement sets out the key terms for a long-term lease to design, build and operate the facility on the Council owned land.
One of the conditions of the Agreement to be met prior to finalising any future lease arrangements, includes the Council endorsement of the master plan for the Council owned land.
My child wants to join a soccer and/or cricket team, can they use the facility for that?
There will be community soccer and cricket teams based at the Beveridge Central site
What equipment will the playground have?
The exact details of the playground equipment hasn’t been decided yet, but if you have any ideas please let us know, via the survey on this page
Can we use the playground, BBQ areas and shelters without being a member of a sports club?
Yes. All members of the community are encouraged to use this area whenever they choose, as it will be a welcoming space for all. You won’t have to be a member of a club to access them.
Will there be a swimming pool in Beveridge?
The draft master plan does not include a swimming pool. There are currently indoor aquatic facilities in Kilmore and Seymour, and outdoor pools in Seymour, Broadford and Tallarook. There are also plans to develop a new indoor aquatic facility in Wallan. Council is also undertaking an Aquatic Facilities Strategy and once this is further developed, there will be opportunities to review and to make comment.
Why are there no netball or tennis facilities in the draft master plan?
Due to the nature of this site, and the need to provide soccer and cricket facilities as well as an area of public open space, netball and tennis facilities will not be located on this site. It is proposed that these facilities (of the appropriate scale) will be located in nearby suburbs such as Lockerbie, Lockerbie North and Beveridge North West.
Will I be able to access the soccer pitches, cricket nets and small sided football pitches.
Yes, when they aren’t being used for and oganised, formal competition or training.
Will I be able to get a coffee or something to eat?
Yes. The proposed community facility will have a café/kiosk area
I’m pretty good at soccer (football) and want to play at the highest level I can. How can I do that?
The proposed tenant at this site will be offering Academy programs for boys and girls to develop future talent.
Will the soccer (football) pitches have lighting?
Yes. All three of the soccer (football) pitches will have lighting for competition and training.
Will the facilities accommodate social/local soccer (football) competition?
Yes. A local community social competition will be available on the small sided football pitches.
When will the facility be built?
Subject to this master plan being approved by Council, we will still need to undertake more detailed design of the facilities and get all of the required permits. We are hoping to start construction in 2026.
