Beveridge Central Active Open Space Master Plan
Mitchell Shire is Victoria’s fastest-growing municipality, with Beveridge in the south experiencing rapid growth. In 2024, the population of Beveridge was 9,120, and it is expected to grow to over 73,000 by 2041, becoming the Shire’s largest town.
Beveridge currently has no sports fields and limited facilities including two tennis courts with a netball overlay at Beveridge Recreation Reserve and an 18-hole golf course in Mandalay Estate.
The 2019 Beveridge Central Precinct Structure Plan identified the 6.47 hectare site on the corner of Lithgow Street and Patterson Street as the future location for Active Open Space. In 2022, Council purchased this land for this purpose.
In March 2024, Mitchell Shire Council started work on a master plan to develop this active open space. In the early stages of the master plan development, discussions commenced between Council and a high-performance sports club to consider the development of a facility that would offer a range of opportunities for both community-based sport and elite pathways.
The range of facilities that have been identified in this master plan, will cater for the needs of both the high-performance club, as well as the broader community.
While tennis facilities were an initial consideration for this site, these will instead be provided in the future at active open spaces in the nearby Lockerbie, Lockerbie North and Beveridge North West Precincts.
Key facilities for the Beveridge Central Active Open Space master plan include:
- An enclosed main soccer pitch
- Two soccer pitches with a cricket oval overlay
- Four cricket practice nets
- Four synthetic small-sided soccer pitches
- One community facility
- District level play space with adjoining picnic tables, BBQ and shelter
- Car parking
- Shared path network, tree planting, and landscaping
