Background information

There are currently two multi-purpose aquatic and leisure centres in Mitchell Shire - one in Kilmore and one in Seymour.

We are already experiencing rapid population growth in the south of our shire. This is expected to accelerate over the next few years.

We will need to cater for this growth in coming years.

There is strong community interest in creating a third multi-purpose aquatic centre to serve Wallan and Beveridge. We also need to plan for the needs of our new and emerging communities of the future.

Mitchell Shire Council has received funding from the Victorian Government for a study to identify:

  • what range of facilities, programs and services will need to be accommodated
  • what sort of centre will be needed to cater for this growth

As part of the study, this information will be used to:

  • identify concept plans and options for a new centre
  • identify potential sites where this could be accommodated
  • identify indicative costs for a centre
This can then be used to confirm a preferred centre concept and location and identify costs, timing and potential funding sources.
