Social Justice Framework 2017-2021

Consultation has concluded

Mitchell Shire Council’s first Social Justice Framework aims to promote equal rights and opportunities for all people within Mitchell Shire and to redress the impact that social and economic inequalities have on both the people experiencing it and the wider community.

The framework is an integration of the existing Access and Inclusion and Cultural Diversity plans and incorporates other significant priority areas that impact our community.

These priority areas are:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • Cultural Diversity
  • LGBTI
  • Gender Equity
  • Equitable Access to Services - Supporting Vulnerability
  • Disability
  • Community Connection

Local government has a key role to play in creating a socially just, inclusive and sustainable communities. The Framework affirms Council’s human rights obligations under the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 and actions Council’s mission:

“Working with our communities to build a great quality of life”.

Submissions close Thursday 19 October and can be made via a hard copy (download a copy here: https://engagingmitchellshire.com/30046/documents/63164) or online via the Make a Submission tab.

Councillors will then consider adopting the plan, along with any changes, at the November council meeting.
