Background information

In partnership with the community, Mitchell Shire Council has developed a Seymour Structure Plan which outlines a vision for strategic land use and development of the Seymour township.

Seymour has been identified in the Victorian Government's Hume Regional Growth Plans as a town of ‘significant change’ and also identified in the Goulburn Regional Partnership Assembly as a priority area of focus. Seymour’s current population is around 6,433 and is expected to grow to 20,000 in the next 20 years.

In October 2018 the Victorian Government announced an almost $1 million commitment to ensure that Seymour continues to be a priority area of focus. Firstly $300,000 will go directly to the preparation of a business case for future public and private investment within Seymour. In addition to the business case preparation, funding has also been provided for:
  • Improvements to Kings Park, Goulburn Park and Chittick Park.
  • Preparation of a feasibility study to progress linking Seymour to Tallarook as part of the Great Victorian Rail Trail.
  • The “Getting Seymour Business Back on Track” initiative of the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre.
