Road Renaming Proposal - Part Arrowsmith Street Beveridge

We're proposing to rename part of Arrowsmith Street in Beveridge.

Arrowsmith Street in Beveridge is currently split by the Hume Freeway. The part of Arrowsmith Street that is to the east of the freeway is developed however the part to the west of the freeway is currently unmade. The western section is now being developed within multiple new developments.

Council is proposing to rename this section of Arrowsmith Street to ‘Austral Street’. This name ties in with common themes within the surrounding developments and represents the Austral Indigo (Indigofera australis) shrub that can be found across the municipality.

Renaming this section of Arrowsmith Street is necessary as it is disconnected to the developed side and may cause confusion to people, emergency services, in particular, locating correct addresses. There are no changes being proposed to Arrowsmith Street on the eastern side of the freeway.

As part of our legislative requirements for road naming, we are seeking feedback on the proposed name change.
