The Active Communities Department is responsible for the development and management of Council’s sporting, leisure and recreation facilities, parks and play spaces within the Shire.

HADFIELD PARK, WALLAN

Thanks to recent funding announcements, the proposed Hadfield Park Play Space rejuvenation in Wallan will now be able to incorporate a year-round all abilities play space, a water play area and improvements to other facilities in the precinct like toilets, shelter, shade, seating and landscaping.

The original $400,000 project is now able to expand to a $1.85 million redevelopment which will create a premier facility in Wallan that can be used by locals and visitors year-round. It is also the largest playground redevelopment ever planned in Mitchell Shire.

The redevelopment is funded through Mitchell Shire Council ($400,000), the State Government's Interface Growth Fund ($950,000) and the Wallan and District Community Branch Bendigo Bank ($500,000).

Community consultation will occur throughout November to seek input to the proposed redevelopment. A community meeting was held at 7.30pm on Wednesday 11 November at the Wallan Youth Room, Wallan Multipurpose Centre, Bentinck Street.

Previous community consultation through the Wallan Structure Plan, Mitchell Open Space Strategy, Mitchell Play Space Strategy and Hadfield Park Development Plan all identified a need to upgrade the playground at Hadfield Park as well as the recent community survey for the original $400,000 redevelopment. In addition, the Mitchell Aquatic Strategy 2014-2024 identified an opportunity for a water play area and the new funding provides an opportunity to combine a water play area into a year-round park in the heart of Wallan.

MOORE COURT, KILMORE

Council is planning to upgrade Moore Court Reserve, Kilmore in early 2016 and has allocated $100,000 for this project. In order to ensure the upgrade is most effective, we are seeking community view and ideas around what will be improved or added to the reserve as part of these works. This survey is now closed. Feedback received will be used to prepare a design concept plan, which will be displayed to the public for further comment prior to project implementation in 2016.

HUDSON PARK, KILMORE

Mitchell Shire Council, in partnership with the State Government will be upgrading the Hudson Park play space, Kilmore in 2016. The $200,000 project will provide the community with a regional level play space that is based on universal design principles, promoting a high level of accessibility for all.

Following community consultation in 2014, a concept plan for the play space upgrade has been developed, incorporating the service standards and design guidelines of the Mitchell Play Space Strategy 2015, and the key priorities identified by the community during the consultation period:

  • Safety through fencing
  • Seating and shade
  • Opportunity for imaginative play
  • A range of activities for multiple ages

Council welcomes your thoughts on the concept plan and a short survey has been developed, to help gather your feedback. This will be used to inform the final design for the play space upgrade, which is anticipated to be constructed mid 2016.
