Applications closed on 17 December2025

Summary

The Committee was seeking passionate community members interested in supporting emergency preparedness, response and recovery across Mitchell Shire. Applicants were invited to contribute their knowledge, skills and lived experience to help shape emergency management planning for the community.

What We Asked

During the consultation period, Council sought expressions of interest from community members who wished to:

  • have their say on key emergency management plans, including fire, flood, pandemic and animal welfare
  • represent the community’s voice during emergency planning, response and recovery
  • work alongside agencies such as Police, CFA, SES, Ambulance Victoria, EMV and Red Cross
  • contribute to identifying risks, reducing impacts and strengthening community resilience

About the Committee

The Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee played a vital role in preparing for emergencies such as fires, floods and other natural hazards. As requested, the Committee:

  • identified risks and hazards
  • developed strategies to reduce impacts
  • created plans outlining roles and responsibilities during emergencies
  • contributed to the recently updated Municipal Emergency Management Plan (2025–2028) and began reviewing and developing sub‑plans to support resilience

Membership was reviewed regularly to ensure a mix of skills, insights and fresh ideas. Terms of appointment were up to three years.

What Was Involved

Meetings: Held four times a year (February, May, August, November), generally on Thursday afternoons for around 1.5 hours.
Location: Meetings were held across Mitchell Shire or online via MS Teams.
Attendance: Members were required to attend at least two meetings per year, including one in person.

Full details were provided in the documents section of the project page.
