Community consultation for the Mitchell Heritage Advisory Committee – Expression of Interest has now closed.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit an application, ask questions and share your interest in preserving heritage in Mitchell Shire.

Applications closed on 19 December 2025.

 Summary

The Mitchell Heritage Advisory Committee was seeking community members with a passion for heritage to help preserve our community’s history. Applicants were invited to bring their knowledge, skills and ideas to help shape the future of heritage across the Shire.

 What We Asked

During the consultation period, Council sought expressions of interest from community members who wished to:

  • identify and protect heritage assets
  • contribute to strategic heritage projects
  • support conservation, awareness and engagement across Mitchell
  • work collaboratively with Council, local historical societies and Aboriginal cultural heritage organisations

 About the Committee

The Committee played a vital role in shaping the future of heritage in Mitchell Shire. As requested, the Committee:

  • provided a forum for community representatives, Councillors and staff to discuss, develop and contribute to heritage issues relevant to Mitchell
  • provided input into strategic heritage‑related projects (e.g. heritage studies and policy development)
  • promoted heritage conservation and awareness within the Shire

Membership Included:

  • A Mitchell Shire Councillor (Chair)
  • Council’s Strategic Planning Team and Municipal Heritage Advisor
  • Representatives from local historical societies and Aboriginal cultural heritage organisations
  • Up to six community members not affiliated with heritage associations

Membership was reviewed regularly to ensure a mix of skills and fresh ideas.

 What Was Involved

  • Meetings: Held every two months, generally on the third Wednesday
  • Location: Mitchell Shire Council offices or online
  • Attendance: Regular participation to share insights and ideas

 What’s Happening Now

Council is currently reviewing all applications.
 Successful applicants will be contacted once the selection process is complete.

A project update will be published on this page once the new committee is confirmed.
