Local Law 3.9.2 – Camping on Land Within Mitchell Shire
Consultation has concluded.
The Local Law Community and Environment 2022 was adopted at Mitchell Shire Council's July meeting and will come into effect on 1 September 2022.
We thank everyone for their input in to help shape a Local Law that reflects the needs of our community.
Mitchell Shire Council is seeking input from stakeholders and the wider community in relation to proposed changes to the camping section (3.9) of their Draft Local Law - Community & Environment Local Law 2022.
In July 2021, Mitchell Shire Council’s Draft Community and Environment Local Law 2022 was released for community consultation, with a number of the proposed changes resulting in extensive feedback and debate across stakeholders and the community.
Council’s existing Local Law - Community Local Law 2013 prohibits camping without a permit in all areas across the shire.
In the Draft Local Law - Community & Environment 2022, Council proposed to ease this condition to allow short periods (up to 7 days) of camping without a permit, however at its November 2021 meeting, Council considered extending the time period for camping without a permit even further.
Council is now seeking community feedback in relation to the proposed increase from 7 to 28 days of camping without a permit.
