Project Closed: LB Davern Reserve Oval Lighting Upgrade

Overview

Mitchell Shire Council sought funding through Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to upgrade the oval lighting at LB Davern Reserve, Wandong.
The project aimed to deliver safer, more inclusive facilities that meet current AFL lighting standards and support increased community use.

What We Proposed

  • Replace existing lighting infrastructure
  • Install four new 28‑metre lighting poles
  • Fit energy‑efficient 100 lux LED lights suitable for training and evening community activities
  • Improve participation opportunities for women and girls, multicultural groups, and other diverse community members

Community Engagement

During the engagement period, we invited feedback from residents, clubs, players, and community members about how the oval is used and how improved lighting could benefit the community.

Engagement Activities were:

  • In‑person drop‑in session:
    6.30pm–7pm, Thursday 20 November
Wandong Community Centre, 12 Dry Creek Road
  • Online survey: Open until 26 November

Outcome

The grant outcome is expected in April 2026. If successful:

  • Construction is anticipated to begin late 2026
  • Further consultation will occur prior to works to ensure community feedback continues to inform project delivery
