Tell us what you think about our draft Local Law Community and Environment 2021
We're reviewing our draft Local Law Community and Environment 2021 to make it easier to understand and to help meet the changing needs of our community and we're looking for your input.
The local law helps Council address local issues to ensure community safety and wellbeing and to protect our public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
These are local laws that only apply in Mitchell Shire and are directly managed by Council. There are also many other state legislative requirements that Council enforces. These are not covered in our draft Local Law Community and Environment 2021.
The draft Local Law Community and Environment 2021 replaces the Local Law No1 Community and Environment 2013. The draft local law will simplify the language used to make it easier to understand.
Some of the changes in the draft Local Law include:
- Preventing abandoned shopping trolleys with rules that mandate the use of coin mechanisms or barrier locking devices for premises with more than 25 trolleys
- Prohibiting the use of recreational vehicles on residential land and any other land less than 0.4 hectares (1 acre)
- Increasing the number of animals allowed to be kept on most properties larger than 0.4 hectares
- Permitting camping on private properties smaller than 0.4 hectares for up to 7 days every 12 months (camping wasn’t previously permitted at all)
- Restricting parking of heavy vehicles on private land in residential areas.
The survey is open until 9am on 2 August 2021
