FAQs
Why is this happening now?
We haven't updated our Heritage Policy since 2009 and we wanted to ensure all parts of our communtiy were considered.
We have undertaken extensive external consultation to ensure everybody's views are heard and consistent practices.
Over the past few months, we've sought feedback from the Taungurung and Wurundjeri, and our Heritage Advisory Committee, and historic societies.
Why just the one policy?
The legislation and regulations pertaining to Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and Historic Cultural Heritage have updated over the last few years and now include considerations like intangible heritage.
Our policy has been updated to highlight these regulations and also combine Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and Historic Cultural Heritage into one document for easier understanding and a community-first overview.
What can be changed?
There are a number of legislative requirements covered in the policy that Mitchell Shire Council must meet such as State Government and Federal Governments regulations and planning requirements.
This policy has taken all of these factors into consideration and will assist development, history and policy moving forward.
