Chittick Park Multipurpose Court and Cricket Nets Project
Mitchell Shire Council is preparing a grant application for Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund – Community Facilities Stream to support upgrades at Chittick Park in Seymour. We want to hear from local residents, sporting clubs, park users and the broader community about what matters most for sport, recreation and community use at Chittick Park.
About the project
Council is planning a multipurpose court and cricket net project at Chittick Park, Seymour.
The project would support the implementation of the Chittick Park Masterplan by upgrading sporting facilities and increasing opportunities for competition, training, social recreation and community use.
The proposed multipurpose sports court would provide a court space for netball and social recreation, with sports lighting and perimeter fencing. The lighting would support safer and more accessible evening and after-hours use by clubs and the wider community.
The proposed cricket net facility would include three lanes with community-accessible nets to support existing and future cricket participation at Chittick Park. The facility would replace the existing cricket nets and be designed to meet Cricket Australia facility guidelines.
The project aims to create a safer, more inclusive and more flexible space for evening sport, training and community activities. It would support increased participation in sport, including for girls and women, multicultural communities and other diverse groups.
It is anticipated that the grant outcome will be announced in October 2026. If successful, construction will commence in early 2027.

What feedback can influence
Feedback will help Council understand the level of community support for the proposed facilities, how people may use them, and what benefits, concerns and local priorities should be considered. It will also help identify accessibility, safety and inclusion needs, and provide information to support the grant application and future planning.
What cannot change
Some parts of the project cannot be changed, including the location, grant program requirements and funding decisions, and relevant safety, access and facility standards. The project must also align with Council priorities, available budget and the Chittick Park Masterplan.
