Mitchell Shire Council is preparing a grant application for Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund – Sports Lighting Stream to upgrade sports lighting at Chittick Park in Seymour. We want to hear from local residents, sporting clubs, park users and the broader community about how the oval is used now and what matters most for evening sport, recreation and community activities.

About the project

Council is seeking community feedback to help inform a proposed upgrade to the sports lighting at Chittick Park Oval in Seymour. The upgrade would replace the existing sports lighting and install four 28 metre poles with 100 lux LED sports lighting at the reserve.

The proposed lighting upgrade would bring Chittick Park up to current AFL facility standards and help create a safer, more inclusive environment for evening sport and community activities. Improved lighting may also support increased participation in sport, including for women and girls, multicultural communities and other diverse groups.

If the grant application is successful, the grant outcome is anticipated to be announced in October 2026. Construction timing is still to be confirmed.

Have your say

We’d like to hear what you value about Chittick Park, how you currently use the oval and surrounds, and what Council should consider as part of the proposed lighting upgrade.

How to provide feedback

What feedback can influence:

Community feedback can help Council understand current use of the oval, support for the proposed upgrade, perceived benefits, concerns, and what should be considered if the project progresses.

What cannot change:

Feedback cannot change grant program requirements, safety and technical standards, available funding, land ownership, or the requirement for the lighting design to meet relevant sporting facility standards.
