What is the purpose of this survey?

    Mitchell Shire Council is seeking to better understand the businesses that operate within the shire. The survey will gather opinions and experiences from businesses about the business community. It is hoped that the findings will:

    • Reveal opportunities that will grow the current businesses and lure new businesses, industries and start-ups.
    • Gauge business health and sentiment.
    • Demonstrate changes in responses in comparison to the 2015 and 2019 Business Surveys that Council conducted.


    Why is Council conducting this survey?

    There are many data sources that provide information on business health and sentiment, but none drill down to the local business community level. Mitchell Shire Council is seeking to better understand the businesses that operate within the shire.

    The findings from the Business Survey 2022 will be used to:

    • Inform the development of Councils Economic Development Strategy.
    • Provide an evidence base for to drive Council’s advocacy, investment and delivery of projects, services, programs and infrastructure.

    How has this survey been prepared?

    In preparing this survey, Council has:

    • Sought professional guidance.
    • Designed questions that produce qualitative and quantitative data.
    • Sought advice on readily available data, and past council community engagement, to eliminate data redundancy and provide access to that data.
    • Reviewed previous Business Surveys conducted by Council, and publicly available government (State and Federal) data, to ensure the questions are comparable.

    Why should I complete this survey?

    Your opinions and experiences will be heard and used as the basis for future planning by Council. This will help improve business satisfaction, determine the priorities for the business community.

    How can I find out the results from this survey?

    Yes of course. Visit our website to sign up for our business newsletter. All Business Newsletter subscribers will be emailed the Business Survey 2022 Report directly.

    How will the data be used?

    This survey captures data that can be broken into three categories:

    1. Personal data: This category includes broad personal information such as age, gender and location. It is not possible to personally identify a respondent with the questions we’re asking. There is an option to add your name and email if you wish to have the Business Survey 2022 Report emailed directly to you.
    2. Behavioural data: This category details information about your business structure, employees and any staffing difficulties may be facing.
    3. Attitudinal data: This data type covers information about your opinions, aspirations, and priorities.

    Will Council disclose the data to a third party?

    The general data collected in this survey will be made public through the Business Survey 2022 Report, however, it will be displayed in data sets and de-personalised to protect privacy.

    The raw data will be visible only to Mitchell Shire Council, and Projectura (the consultancy engaged to conduct the business survey). No other party will have access to the raw data.

    Types of personal data we’re collecting, and why

    We are collecting broad demographic data, which is personal data to understand the respondents' age, gender, and residential location. 

    We are collecting this data to see whether opinions and experiences differ across different demographic markers. 

    For instance, how do the business views of young respondents differ from older persons and how do genders compare.
