The Broadford SMSC – Expansion Feasibility Study has now been finalised

Taking on board feedback from consultation, the Expansion Feasibility Study (Draft for Consultation version) was reviewed and revised.

Within the report, a revised version of Option 4 (re-labelled as Option 4B) was developed to take account of stakeholder feedback, analysed and confirmed as the preferred and recommended option for expansion.

A Masterplan and Implementation Plan, based on the preferred option, were also developed and finalised to guide the future work that will now need to be undertaken by Motorcycle Victoria to realise the vision to expand the complex and its contribution towards Broadford and Mitchell Shire’s economy and tourism sector.

Council has noted the findings of the Final Expansion Feasibility Study

On Monday 16 March, Council discussed the Broadford State Motorcycle Sports Complex – Expansion Feasibility Study (BSMSC – EFS) at the Ordinary Council Meeting.

A Council Resolution was passed, noting the findings and recommendation of the BSMSC – EFS, the masterplan (i.e. contained within the EFS), and the Consultation Findings Summary Report.

What Happens Next?

Motorcycling Victoria will now review the findings of the BSMSC EFS and begin to work through the actions set out within the report and its implementation plan.

It is important to note that the Council Resolution does not constitute any form of planning approval for expansion of the State Motorcycle Sports Complex. The completed BSMSC EFS has identified that expansion in accordance with an envisaged masterplan around Option 4B appears to be feasible. However, any expansion will still be required to go through normal approval processes.

The study has also identified the necessary steps, including regulatory requirements related to potential environmental impacts, cultural heritage, and ecological matters, that Motorcycling Victoria will need to take to undertake as they progress their vision for the complex.

The adopted Council Resolution requires that prior to any expansion, Motorcycling Victoria undertake, and publicly disclose, an independent noise assessment to ensure that an appropriate noise management plan is established for the potential expansion of the Broadford SMSC.

The findings and recommendations of the BSMSC EFS (Final Version) will help to ensure that the SMSC retains its current standing in the industry and provides a wide range of options for enhanced utilisation of and visitation to the complex, which will assist Motorcycle Victoria to realise its vision for the Broadford State Motorcycle Sports Complex.

Importantly, Mitchell Shire Council acknowledges the efforts of all stakeholders, participants and landowners for their respective contributions towards the outcome and thanks them for their involvement.

Consultation for this stage of the project has concluded.
