  • Have your say on long-term plan for Beveridge township

Beveridge might be a quiet country town just off the Hume Freeway now, but it sits among the booming Northern Growth Corridor which is expected to be home to 252,000 people and 81,000 new homes.

This growth will bring increased development pressures on the existing Beveridge township.

That’s why Council has been working with the community to prepare the Beveridge Township Development Plan, which will guide future land use and development in the township.

The plan will ensure integration with surrounding urban neighbourhoods that will be delivered through the Victorian Government’s Lockerbie North and Beveridge Central Precinct Structure Plans.

After a community survey last year, the draft Beveridge Township Development Plan has now been completed and Council is again asking the community for their feedback.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson encouraged Beveridge residents to view the draft plan and make a submission if they thought there was anything that needed amending or adding.

“The Beveridge township falls within Melbourne’s Urban Growth Boundary and is already within a residential zone. However, it needs a strong planning approach to ensure its future as a great place to live,” Cr Sanderson said.

“That’s why we’ve consulted with current residents and landholders to develop the draft Beveridge Township Development Plan.

“The plan is really important to manage growth and to make sure we’ve got solid policies in place for things such as where houses go, what density of housing will link in best with the surrounding area and what road upgrades are needed.”

To view the draft plan, learn more or make a submission, Council is hosting drop-in sessions at Beveridge Community Centre (Lithgow Street) on Wednesday 14 March from 4pm to 6.30pm and on Tuesday 20 March from 2.30pm to 5pm. The draft plan can also downloaded at www.engagingmitchellshire.com or hard copies can be viewed at the Wallan Planning and Building Office (61 High Street Wallan) or Kilmore Customer and Library Service Centre. Submissions can be made online, via email mitchell@mitchellshire.vic.gov.au, dropped at Council’s Customer and Library Service Centres or posted to:
