Beveridge Recreation Reserve Master Plan

Consultation has concluded. For more information on this project, please contact Council on 5734 6200.

The Beveridge Recreation Reserve is undergoing a master planning process to reflect the rapidly changing landscape and community of the area. This Master Plan will determine what capital works are required to establish a park suitable for these significant population increases, but also facilitate works that protect, retain or reveal its history and character.

Beveridge Recreation Reserve is a ten hectare reserve on Lithgow Street on the eastern side of the Hume Freeway and opposite the original primary school. It has valuable environmental assets including a natural spring and wetland, 50 species of native plants, 28 native fauna species, and also supports existing community uses including tennis courts, a horse menage, play equipment, toilets, CFA buildings and a small community centre.

As Beveridge changes during the next 30 years, it is important for the open space of the reserve to be protected and enhanced so the reserve can provide a local landmark and the recreational heart for Beveridge's growing population.

A Master Plan is being prepared to guide the future use and development of the Reserve, and to ensure this critical open space resource will act as local landmark, a focal point for enjoyment of diverse passive recreational activities and the natural environment, and for community gatherings and events.

This consultation seeks feedback from the community on these initial works, as well as input and ideas for the vision for Beveridge Recreation Reserve from now to 2050.

Stage 1 works:

Council is working with the Victorian Government to undertake some initial activation of the Reserve including a circuit path, boardwalk, playspace upgrade, new outdoor fitness equipment and minor enlargement of the tennis courts to provide multiuse tennis and netball courts.

The 650m circuit pathway with outdoor fitness equipment stations will run from the community centre towards the equestrian menage, loop around the wetland area via a pedestrian boardwalk, and return to the community centre via an existing stony knoll.

Exercise pods including fitness equipment specifically designed for seniors will be installed along the pathway. The play space will be upgraded to improve play options, accessibility and appeal to children of all ages.

A complete reconstruction of the current tennis/netball courts is required for them to be sustainable and safe. The new courts will be built on a concrete base, making them more durable and suitable for the site conditions. Energy efficient LED lights will replace the existing metal halide lights to reduce operating costs and energy inefficiencies.
