Kilmore Creek Flood Study

Consultation has concluded

For the past two years, as part of the Kilmore Structure Plan, Council and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority have been working on the Kilmore Flood Mapping and Intelligence Study.

We're holding information sessions on Thursday 23 February to update the community on the current draft mapping outcomes and seek any historic flood information to help verify and improve the mapping prior to finalisation.

We want to tap into local knowledge. Your input will help inform future planning, development, emergency management and possible flood mitigation works for the township.

Information sessions will be held on Thursday 23 February from 2-4pm and from 6-8pm (at the John Taylor Room at the Kilmore Customer and Library Service Centre).

Information from the sessions will be fed back into the study to further refine the model and its findings for future consideration in a planning scheme amendment process (note: any planning scheme changes would be subject to a separate consultation process).

For more information please contact Cameron Baird on 5734 6200 or email cameron.baird@mitchellshire.vic.gov.au

  • Kilmore Creek Flood Study Complete

We are happy to advise that the Kilmore Creek Flood Mapping and Intelligence Study has now been completed.

A copy of the final report is available to the community and can be downloaded here.

Mitchell Shire Council and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority would like to thank all those that were able to assist with information and local knowledge to enable this highly informative study to be completed.

This study will offer important information to our emergency services and enable them to better respond and understand potential flood impacts within Kilmore. It also provides us with better information to help direct future planning and building decisions and potential flood mitigation options in the longer term.

Should you require any further information on the study or have any further queries, please feel free to contact the Mitchell Shire Council Engineering Department on 5734 6200.

  • About the project

    supporting image

In conjunction with the Kilmore Structure Plan) and supported by the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, Council has been working on the Kilmore Flood Mapping and Intelligence Study. With the completion of draft flood mapping it is now time for local residents to provide their input.

Given that Kilmore has not flooded in recent years there is limited information available to confirm the accuracy of the draft mapping. It would be great if local residents could share their local knowledge of flooding behaviour and issues around the area. It is important that the final flood mapping produced for this study is as accurate as possible as it will be used as a basis for planning, development, future flood mitigation works and emergency management purposes.

The flood maps shown on this website show a draft version of the expected peak flood extent and depth of a 1% Annual Exceedance Probability flood event. That is a flood event of this magnitude or larger has a 1% chance of occurring in any given year.

To allow you to have your say, two information sessions are planned for Thursday 23 February 2017 at the Kilmore Library with Mitchel Shire Council and the consultants producing the mapping. It would be great if you could share your knowledge with us at these sessions.

    Session 1: 2 – 4 pm Thursday 23 February 2017 – John Taylor Room - Kilmore Library, Kilmore.

    Session 2: 6 - 8pm Thursday 23 February 2017 – John Taylor Room – Kilmore Library, Kilmore.
